From the country streets of Nashville arises Backroad Slang, a rock-fringed country band bent on making it BIG

Formed by singer-songwriter Mike Thiel and drummer Scotty Kormos in 2018, Backroad Slang came together by what seemed to be fate. After leaving their Midwest homes to follow their music dreams – which separately brought them all over the country – the two musicians were independently searching for a new music muse.

“I’ve been in bands since I was 14,” Thiel said. “You grind it out, you work hard but when you start your next project, you want to surround yourself with people who understand your vision. It’s been a long road, but then I met Scotty and everything instantly clicked. That’s a gift. Things like that don’t happen that often in music. ”

After landing in Nashville around the same time, the two were introduced by a mutual friend and started Backroad Slang just three days later.

“I’ve never started a band this fast,” Kormos laughed. “When I heard the music Mike was writing, I was hooked. It’s fun, has attitude, but walks the fine line to go into pretty much any territory. I could tell it was perfect for a live show and I was like, whatever this is going to be, I want to be a part of it.”

Creating an unapologetic sound that blends hook heavy stadium rock edge with country charm, Backroad Slang is for those who still like a little whiskey in their Coke, a little Kahlua in their coffee. The two down-home musicians pride themselves on feeding the heart and soul of the working class with flashy choruses wrapped around country lyrics reflective of their unrefined upbringings.
